A growing number of people feel that animals should not be exploited by people and that they should have the same rights as humans, while others argue that humans must employ animals to satisfy their various needs, including uses for food and research. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge and experience.
With the advancement of civilization, the values of the world are changing and becoming kinder to all living animals. Some resort to beliefs that they should have equal rights as humans. However, others say that they must be used to satisfy all our needs. Although I support that animals should be cared for with kindness, I firmly believe they should meet our food and research needs.
The most important reason why I believe that animals should advance research is to benefit us human beings. In the medical sector, animals can be used for tests instead of humans. One of the main reasons is that the life of a human being is more precious to us. So the risk of a human beings dying is huge and concerning to us. Most of the modern discoveries are due to conducting multiple tests on subjects. For example, new vaccines are first tested on monkeys to determine whether they will be safe for humans to use. Even the adverse effects caused by these drugs are monitored. Thus, as we are advancing medicine to treat diseases, we are getting huge benefits from using animals as an alternative to humans.
On the other hand, giving equal rights should not be mandated. Different religions and cultures have different perceptions regarding animals. For example, a part of Asian subcontinent, treat animals with care and respect. They can not be brought to eat animals, let alone hurt them. On the other hand, other faiths have no problem eating beef as food. Besides, giving them equal rights would somewhat make the value of human life and its preservation less important. Although I would support using non-hurtful means of animal sacrifice, I would not be eager to give them human rights but Id certainly would employ Animal rights as defined by the norms of society.
I would conclude that animals should be used for the meeting of our food requirements and also for research. Also, I would be in favour of a painless slaughter.
